Multiple arrests in jewelry theft ring that hit Connecticut mall – NBC Connecticut

Seven people have been charged by federal authorities in connection with an organized ring that steals jewelry and targets stores in shopping malls, including one in Connecticut.

The United States Attorney’s Office said a federal grand jury returned an indictment on July 16, which was partially made public this week.

It is alleged that several men and women broke into jewelry stores and mall kiosks and then smuggled the stolen goods, or the proceeds, across state lines.

Three men and one woman were arrested for their roles in the theft ring, with three others currently wanted by police.

The indictment alleges that multiple individuals broke into jewelry stores at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford.

Jewelry stores in several other states were also hit, including New Jersey and New York. Officials said more than $1.28 million worth of jewelry was taken.

The four people in custody are charged with, among other things, conspiracy and interstate transportation of stolen property.

Several law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation, including the FBI New Haven Transnational Organized Crime Task Force and the Milford Police Department.
