“Tatag lang, tatag lang (stay strong).”

Apollo C. Quiboloy, founder and leader of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), said this to his followers when he arrived at the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 159 on Friday morning, September 13, for his arraignment on charges of human trafficking.

With him were his co-defendants, namely Cresente Canada, Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada and Sylvia Cemanes.

One of Quiboloy’s alleged victims, who was recruited and allegedly abused when she was a minor, also arrived at the RTC.

Quiboloy and his co-defendants are being prosecuted before the Pasig RTC in a case of aggravated human trafficking, in violation of Republic Act (RA) 9208, also known as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, which concerns the alleged sexual abuse and human trafficking committed against a 17-year-old girl in 2011.

They were also charged with other forms of child abuse before the Quezon City RTC, under Section 10(a) of RA 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), Quiboloy allegedly repeatedly abused underage girls aged 12 and 13 on Thursday, September 12, promising that such sexual acts would grant them access to heaven.

PNP spokesman Col. Jean Fajardo said Quiboloy also threatened the victims with “angels of death” who would hunt them down if they told anyone what they had experienced.

Quiboloy is also wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on several charges, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion, and child sex trafficking; sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion; conspiracy; and large-scale cash smuggling.

Quiboloy and his co-defendants are being held at the PNP Detention Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City after their arrest last Sunday, September 8, in Davao City.
