Trump unveils plan to end ‘all overtime taxes’

Former President Donald Trump announced at a rally in Arizona on Thursday that he would work to eliminate the overtime tax if he were elected in November.

Trump, who previously said he would work to end taxes on tips, unveiled the new tax policy proposal while speaking to supporters in Tucson at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall. He said it would incentivize workers and help businesses find employees.

“As part of our additional tax cuts, we will eliminate all overtime taxes,” Trump said.

“It’s time for the working man and woman to finally get a break,” he added. “I think it’s going to be great for the country. So we’re going to say if you’re an overworker and you work more than 40 hours a week, think about it, your overtime is tax-free.”

“The people who are working overtime are some of the hardest working citizens in our country, and for too long no one in Washington has looked after them,” Trump continued. “These are the people who are really working. They are police officers, nurses, factory workers, construction workers, truck drivers, and machine operators.”

Joseph Costello, a spokesman for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign called Trump’s plan a “snake oil sales pitch.”

“No matter how much he lies now, Donald Trump’s record and agenda are clear: As president, he stole millions of dollars in wages from the workers he claims to represent,” he said.

Harris previously copied a Trump proposal to end the tip tax for all service providers. Trump rolled out the policy in Las Vegas in June, while Harris took a similar stance in August.

At the Arizona rally, Trump also slammed the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of illegal immigration.

“I’m angry about Venezuelan gangs taking over Aurora, Colorado,” he said. “And illegal Haitian migrants taking over a beautiful place — Springfield, Ohio. I’m angry about young American girls being raped, sodomized and murdered by barbaric, criminal aliens.”

Arizona, one of the states hardest hit by illegal immigration, is seen as a key battleground state that could determine the 2024 election. Current polls show Trump leading Arizona by an average of 1.6 points over Harris.
