Bills fans make classy gesture to Tua Tagovailoa after latest injury

Thursday Night Football provided a shock to NFL fans everywhere when Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a terrifying concussion after taking a hit from Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. This is now Tua’s third serious head injury and has many calling for him to retire before he does any more damage to his health.

Bills fans are known to be some of the most dedicated in the league, and they couldn’t help but support Tagovailoa after what happened Thursday night. Bills Mafia donated more than $16,000 to the quarterback’s foundation:

A very classy gesture by Bills Mafia. Tagovailoa left the game and never returned, struggling to get up:

Just a scary scene. Hamlin was of course in a similar situation, but much worse, last season when he collapsed on the field.

Of course, it’s unthinkable that Tua Tagovailoa would make a career of it at such a young age, but every concussion he’s suffered has been devastating. There’s only so much trauma the brain can withstand. The reality is that Tua will live much longer than he will play football. After Thursday’s incident, numerous players, current and former, have said he should consider retirement.

“I really hope Tua is ok but he needs to seriously think about quitting. I hate to say this. His concussions are getting worse and he is a young man with his whole life ahead of him,” Shannon Sharpe wrote on X.

That’s it…NFL go ahead and do the right thing. Tua has had way too many concussions. He needs to retire because of his health issues that could extend his lifespan,” Dez Bryant said on X.

Bills QB Josh Allen also spoke about the situation after the game:

“If you know Tua outside of football, like I do, you can’t help but feel for him,” Allen said. “He’s a great football player, but he’s an even better person. He’s one of the best people on the planet. I have a lot of love for him. I’m just praying for him and his family and hoping everything is OK.”

Las Vegas Raiders head coach and longtime league player Antonio Pierce was asked about Tua Tagovailoa on Friday. His answer was blunt: He should hang them up:

“I’ll be honest with you, I would tell him to retire. It’s not worth it,” Pierce said. “In the game, I’ve never seen anything like what happened to him three times. Scary — you could see it right away; the faces of the players on the field. You could see the sense of urgency from everybody to help Tua. I just think at some point — he’s going to live longer than he’s going to play football. Take care of your family.”

Others commentating included Antonio Brown, Adrian Amos and Hamlin.

Tagovailoa has some big decisions to make. Sure, he’s a great player and a big part of the Dolphins organization, but this is his life. One more traumatic concussion and who knows what could happen.
