Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday, September 14, 2024, accused the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police of conspiracy in the clash with Mangesh Yadav, who was shot dead by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) in Sultanpur on September 5 during an alleged clash.

Yadav told reporters in an interview on Saturday that Mangesh’s family alleges that the police deliberately orchestrated his murder.

“Mangesh Yadav was taken from his house and murdered,” Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday after meeting the family on Friday, September 13, to hear their version of events.

Akhilesh Yadav suggested that people can be forced to say something under pressure from the authorities.

Mangesh Yadav was suspected of involvement in a robbery at a jewellery shop in Sultanpur on August 28.

The SP leader’s comments come in the wake of growing controversy over alleged clashes with police in the state.

Earlier on Friday, Akhilesh had hit out at the mafia, saying: “There is no difference between a priest and a mafia, they are both the same.”

He also questioned the silence of BJP leaders when a call for action was made against their opponents with the slogan “Inko maaro joote chaar.”

Yadav alleged that there was a scam involving land in Ayodhya, claiming that not only land but even ponds had been seized illegally. He sarcastically referred to the BJP as the “Bharatiya Jameen Party” to underscore his accusation.
