Cyber ​​​​Threat Intelligence & Malware Reverse Engineer at Sony – SEU – United Kingdom – Headquarters

We are looking for a highly motivated Cyber ​​​​Threat Intelligence & Malware Reverse Engineer to join Integrated Threat Defense (ITD) and become a key part of the Global Security Incident Response Team (GSIRT). The goal is to support our Enterprise Threat Analysis Program to secure Sony’s information assets, services and products.

You will be part of a small remote team, with direct team members in the US and support from a manager who is keen to give autonomy and freedom whilst encouraging training and development through both internal channels and accredited SANS Institute training. You will need to be someone who thrives in a mature work environment, with the ability to stay motivated and take ownership of using modern tools to overcome challenges in this exciting space.

You will:

  • Perform static and dynamic analysis of samples and perform reverse engineering to support SOC investigations and proactive threat detection and prevention.

  • Develop tools and methods for use in hunting and incident response activities.

  • Work with the threat intelligence team to conduct proactive research and analysis of the latest threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to support detection efforts.

  • Research, build, and maintain detection capabilities for the latest threats across SIEM, log analysis, and security tool platforms.

  • Support projects to improve SOC effectiveness and align technical capabilities with threats.

  • Support and integrate with incident response, threat intelligence, and the overall security strategy as needed.

  • Generate high-quality documentation of research and analysis results and communicate processes and findings in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Create detailed analysis reports, deliverables, cyber threat assessments, and briefings on security incidents and related information for GSIRT and its stakeholders.

  • Write high-quality threat reports tailored to the Sony Group companies, regions or sectors in which Sony operates.

  • Provides support to the SOC during incident response and threat hunting activities, including threat modeling, supporting cyber threat analysis, investigation, and recommending relevant remediation and mitigation actions.

  • Stay up to date with the latest emerging threats and abuse vectors and ensure internal teams, executives and Sony Group stakeholders are aware of changes in the cyber threat landscape.

  • Support projects to improve data collection, interpretation processes, and initiatives related to threat intelligence and information security.

  • Develop and follow detailed operational processes and procedures.

You bring with you:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: information security, data analytics, intelligence analysis and information assurance.

  • Experience in malware analysis and reverse engineering.

  • Experience in developing network signatures (e.g. Snort, Suricata) and endpoint threat detection.

  • Demonstrable Reverse Engineering skills: familiar with debuggers, disassemblers, network protocols, file formats, sandboxes, packed and obfuscated code, and Reverse Engineering tools such as IDA Pro.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities and events simultaneously, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond to high priority events, and successfully organize and plan work.

  • Ability to function effectively as part of a geographically distributed team and to work independently.
