Youth pastor sentenced to 31 to 46 years in prison for child sex

The Morganton News-Herald reports:

Aaron Mirtsching, 42, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to three counts of sexual battery on a child, one count of sexual battery on a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old and five counts of indecent exposure of a minor, a Burke County court official said.

He was sentenced on Friday to a minimum of 31 years and eight months in prison. He could receive a maximum sentence of 46 years in prison.

According to an earlier article in the News Herald, Mirtsching was charged with 15 counts of indecent assault on a child, four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of sexual offense with a child by an adult.

Charlotte’s ABC affiliate reports:

Mirtsching previously worked at New Dimensions Charter School in Morganton. He also worked as a youth pastor at Thrive Church, but was fired after they learned of the arrest.

The senior pastor of Thrive Church said no one has ever filed charges or behavioral issues involving Mirtsching. According to the sheriff’s office, Mirtsching was sentenced to 380 to 552 months in prison.

Mirthsching appeared in the case twice last year after being re-arrested three days after his release from prison after more victims came forward.
