Express furious after 6,000 EU flags handed out at the Proms

In August, the newspaper reported, BBC Proms ticket holders were told they would be banned from bringing “protest flags” to the annual celebration of British patriotism.

The iconic South Kensington venue has told those planning to attend that “flags associated with protests” are not allowed and may be confiscated by staff.

But George Chambers, the head of communications at BBC Classical has now confirmed on social media that the EU flag does not belong here, much to the annoyance of the Emphasically.

The newspaper lamented the fact that there has been a “succession of years in which the red, white and blue of the Union Jack has been increasingly drowned out by the blue and gold of the EU flag”.

And they are right.

Last year, Brexiteers were in an uproar over the number of European flags that would be on display at the event.

Harvey Proctor wrote: “The BBC should investigate why so many EU flags were waved and displayed at The Last Night of the Proms.

“Disgraceful and misleading BBC ruining a British tradition; a political gesture that would make Sir Henry Wood turn in his grave.”

“Totally vulgar and wrong. Govern Britannia, not Govern EU.”

Mark Crockett added: “Anyone waving or displaying the EU flag should have been removed from view or escorted out of the venue.”
