Cambodia addresses 104 cases of human trafficking and sexual exploitation

PHNOM PENH (XINHUA) – Cambodia has addressed 104 cases of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in the first half of 2024, a report released yesterday by the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons (NCCT) showed.

In the period January-June this year, 22 cases involved human trafficking and 82 cases involved sexual exploitation, the report said. During the crackdown, authorities arrested a total of 134 suspects, including four foreigners.

“A total of 290 victims, including 241 women, were rescued,” the report said, adding that 134, or 46 percent, of them were under 18 years old.

Ministry of the Interior Undersecretary Chou Bun Eng, who is also the permanent vice-chairman of the NCCT, said human trafficking cases were linked to fraud, labor disputes, illegal employment and illegal immigration, among other things.

“The Royal Government will continue its efforts to eradicate all forms of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, in order to promote respect for human rights, dignity and social justice,” she said.
