Apna Dal-S MLA Vinay Verma accuses Siddharthnagar police of sheltering drug mafia, demands SP’s transfer

Siddharthnagar, September 15, 2024
Vinay Verma, the legislator from Shohratgarh constituency in Siddharthnagar district, has been on an indefinite protest for the past six days, expressing his displeasure over the way the police are handling cases. He is determined to demand the transfer of the district Superintendent of Police (SP), Prachi Singh.

Verma, a legislator from the Apna Dal-S party, an ally of the ruling BJP in UP, accused the SHO of Shohratgarh and Dhebarua of misconduct and providing protection to the drug mafia in the area.

He has also levelled serious allegations against SP Prachi Singh, alleging that she instructed the station officials to discriminate against him and ignored his concerns.

The legislator’s protest began six days ago and he even met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his demand for the transfer of SP Prachi Singh.

The situation escalated after a recent incident in Shohratgarh Assembly area, where a tractor-trailer overturned during illegal sand mining and caught fire, killing the tractor driver.

Verma accuses the Dhebarua police station chief of protecting certain suspects during the investigation.

He stated that he has been on hunger strike for six days and stressed the need to remove the SP and save the district from corruption. He criticized the police approach and claimed that while his attempts to remove officials have been ignored, any ordinary person with a bribe would get his problems resolved soon.

He further said that he has discussed the issue with the regional and state presidents of the BJP. They understood his concerns and advised him to talk to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Verma has stated that if the SP is not transferred, he will continue his protests peacefully for the remainder of the government’s term, even if it means going on strike for the next two and a half years. (Agency)
