Tuanku Muhriz saddened by cases of sexual abuse and exploitation of children in nursing home

PETALING JAYA: Negeri Sembilan District Governor Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has expressed deep sadness over recent reports of child abuse and exploitation in nursing homes linked to an Islamist organisation.

Tuanku Muhriz said such actions were unacceptable and against true Islamic values, Utusan Malaysia reported.

I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the reports of an organisation that, while claiming to promote Islamic welfare, is involved in the abuse and exploitation of children in its care, he was quoted as saying during the Maulidur Rasul celebration for Negeri Sembilan.

This is an example of behavior that Muslims should not exhibit. It is our responsibility to embody the true values of Islam in our daily lives, including sincerity, honesty, trustworthiness, justice, unity and mutual respect.

Tuanku Muhriz’s comments follow police operations in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan at 20 nursing homes linked by authorities to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH).

According to police, 402 children were rescued and investigations revealed that at least 13 of them had been sodomized or taught to sexually abuse others.

Authorities also arrested 171 people, including an ustaz and a hostel guard.

GISBH has since denied that it operated the nursing homes that were raided, and that the children in its care were sodomized or forced to sexually assault others.

Yesterday, police inspector Razarudin Husain said that the police will investigate a statement by GISBH chairman and CEO Nasiruddin Ali, who said that there had indeed been one or two cases of sodomy with children in the nursing homes.
