Ryan Wesley Routh named as shooter in second assassination attempt on Donald Trump

Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested after fleeing an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Routh, a registered Democratic voter, was caught concealing his weapon in bushes near the trail boundary, and was armed with what was described as an “AK-47-style assault rifle.”

Secret Service agents spotted him about 300-500 yards away from Trump, who was playing a round of golf.

Routh fled the scene but was later captured after a witness provided key information about his vehicle.

Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder said Routh “didn’t show much emotion” when police arrested him.

Snyder added that the suspected shooter was “relatively calm” and “never asked” why he was being held.

Routh remained calm during his arrest and authorities found additional weapons and equipment in his possession, including backpacks and a GoPro camera.

Routh, who had a history of criminal activity including a run-in with police in 2002, had no formal military background but was involved in controversial activities related to international conflicts.

In 2023, he told The New York Times that he had traveled to Ukraine and wanted to recruit Afghan soldiers to fight there, a fact apparently confirmed by Facebook posts.
