2024 – Ottawa Caucus | Poilievre Conservatives gather to prepare for return to school

(Ottawa) Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre is meeting with his caucus on Parliament Hill on Sunday as he prepares for a new attempt to topple the Liberal minority government as early as next week.

The day-long caucus meeting, which takes place Monday before the party returns to parliament, will begin with a speech from Poilievre, who has maintained his party’s lead in the polls all summer.

The Conservative Party of Canada is the last major party to hold a meeting in preparation for the fall session of Parliament, after the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois all met during the week.

All parties have adjusted their strategies since New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh ended the deal that would have kept Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority Liberal government in power until June 2025.

Mr Poilievre has promised to table a motion of censure at the earliest opportunity, and that could happen as early as Monday.

The Conservatives would likely need the support of the NDP and the Bloc Québécois (BQ) to pass the motion, but that seems unlikely.

The Conservatives’ autumn manifesto focuses heavily on the economy and is committed to abolishing the carbon price.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner also plans to introduce legislation to combat online harassment and child sexual exploitation.
