Jewish Agency and ELI team up to protect immigrant teens – Israeli News

In a major step toward protecting immigrant youth, ELI – The Israel Association for Child Protection has launched a new partnership with the Jewish Agency’s Aliyah and Absorption Unit. The initiative aims to raise awareness of abuse and online threats among new immigrant teens, providing them with crucial knowledge and tools to protect themselves.

ELI, the only organization in Israel that addresses all forms of child abuse, including sexual, physical and emotional, has joined forces with the Jewish Agency for the first time. Their partnership focuses on educating teens in grades 7-11 and living in the Jewish Agency’s absorption centers.

More than 400 teens will attend a special theater performance put on by ELI: “Something of Yours Stayed With Me.” The play explores the difficult topics of peer sexual abuse, harmful social media use, and online exploitation. The goal is to help teens recognize dangerous situations, whether in their personal interactions or online, and encourage them to seek help when needed.

After the performance, trained staff at the absorption centers will engage the teens in discussions to further reinforce the lessons from the play. These staff members have already undergone preparation to facilitate open conversations about abuse and protection, so they can provide ongoing support.

“We place great value on building resilience and social media skills as part of the integration process for immigrant youth,” said Vered Ahihon, Content Manager at the Jewish Agency’s Aliyah and Absorption Unit.

Limmor Greenberg, ELI’s director of Education and Prevention, noted that this partnership is especially vital for teens who are still learning Hebrew. “Through this collaboration, we can present life-saving information in a way they can understand,” she said.

ELI’s helpline 6935 remains open to everyone and offers professional support to children and their families.
