Man approaches local with gun, steals wallet

On September 14, a man approached a resident of Oak Park and Forest Park in the 1100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. He pointed a silver handgun at them and said, “This is not a joke.” A victim handed over his brown wallet containing cash, credit cards, a gas card and an expired ID. The suspect then ran south and possibly got into a white Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle drove away north. The estimated loss is $300.

Aggravated assault

On September 13, an Oak Park resident attempted to enter a building on the first block of Ontario Street. A black sedan pulled up and two men got out. The men approached the resident and pointed a gun at him. The men then fled the scene.

Theft

A man stole a pink Biagini Python leather handbag with a brass handle from a display case on Sept. 8 in the 100 block of North Oak Park Avenue. The man fled in an unknown direction. The estimated loss is $2,250.

Two women were hired and given a key fob to clean an apartment on the 400 block of North Harlem Avenue on September 13. The women allegedly stole $10,000, 10 gold coins, and four black Beretta handguns with unknown serial numbers. The estimated loss is $35,759.

Burglary

A man entered an Oak Park resident’s garage on the 500 block of Lyman Avenue through an open door on Sept. 9. The man stole a blue electric bicycle and rode off southbound. The estimated loss is $3,000.

Theft of catalytic converter

Someone stole the catalytic converter from an Oak Park resident’s 2009 Toyota Prius on the 800 block of Woodbine Avenue on September 4. The estimated loss is $2,400.

Two men stole the catalytic converter from an Oak Park resident’s 2008 Toyota Prius on the 400 block of South Boulevard on Sept. 11. They fled in a gray Toyota RAV4. The estimated loss is $2,500.

Theft of motor vehicles

Video shows a man entering an Oak Park resident’s unlocked black 2024 Honda Accord Sport hybrid while it was parked in the 6400 block of North Avenue on Sept. 8. The man then fled on a bicycle but later returned on foot. He then stole the car. The estimated loss is $41,000.

Someone stole an Oak Park resident’s gray 2020 Kia Sportage sometime between Sept. 14 and 15 while it was parked in the 600 block of Randolph Street. The estimated loss is $19,000.

Arrests

A 36-year-old Chicago man was arrested for driving under the influence on Sept. 8 in the 500 block of South Harlem Avenue. He also had an active warrant out of Cook County for assault. He was being held for bail hearings.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence against an Oak Park resident on Sept. 13 in the 1100 block of South Austin Boulevard. He was being held for bail hearings.

A 33-year-old Oak Park man was arrested on Sept. 13 for assaulting an Oak Park resident at 123 Madison St. He was released.

A 47-year-old Oak Park woman was arrested on the Green Line on Sept. 13 after she was identified as the person who smashed the glass front door of Chipotle. She was issued a summons to appear and released.

A 24-year-old Oak Park man was arrested Sept. 15 in the 900 block of Fair Oaks Avenue on an active warrant out of Iowa for sexual exploitation of a minor. He was being held pending extradition.

These items were obtained from Oak Park Police Department reports from September 9-16 and represent a subset of the incidents to which police responded. Everyone named in these reports has only been charged with a misdemeanor and the cases are not yet resolved. We only report a suspect’s race when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s assistance in making an arrest.
