Legacy Christian Academy teacher charged with assault with weapon

Early Tuesday morning, a Saskatoon mother finally got some good news: the 44-year-old woman who allegedly attacked her then 7-year-old son had been arrested.

“I got a call from the officer who investigated the case, and they finalized the case this morning with Terra McEwan being charged with assault with a weapon,” LG said

“My son was there when I got the call. And so he heard it and he was very happy. And it’s hoping, we both hope that she doesn’t hurt other children and that she hopefully seeks help,” said LG

LG suspects Terra McEwan is the sister of Aaron Travis Benneweis, who was convicted in late January of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor.

The Saskatoon Provincial Court has confirmed that the suspect will appear in court on these charges on September 25.

The then seven-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with autism, told his mother about an incident with his gym teacher at Legacy Christian Academy, now Valour Academy.

On May 16, LG said she was picking up her son from school when he complained that his head hurt. She asked if he had hit his head on the playground.

“He said, ‘My gym teacher hit me in the head twice with the metal stick,’ and I said, ‘Are you sure, do you mean it?’ and he said, ‘Yes, it was the blue metal stick, because we’re learning how to do relay races,’” she recalled.

After pulling her son out of school and homeschooling him, the now 8-year-old is attending a new school.

“At first he was scared to meet new teachers and stuff, but they really supported him and were understanding of his situation, so he’s doing really well considering the circumstances,” LG said

“I’m just really happy that there’s justice and I really hope that the judge makes the right decision and hopefully there will be consequences for her actions. And I hope that it will have an impact on the school as well.”
