Poison drummer Rikki Rockett announces side project: The Rockett Mafia

Poison drummer Rikki Rockett isn’t sitting still while Poison waits until 2026 to tour again. The Poison founder is branching out on his own with a side project called The Rockett Mafia, featuring Brandon Gibbs of Hoekstra/Gibbs, Mick Weda of Bulletboys, and Bryan Kimes of The Hot Summers. Yeah, I’ve heard of those bands before.

Rockett revealed the new side project on social media, describing it on Facebook as follows:

“The boys and I have had so much positive feedback on this lineup so far! I feel very blessed. Our agent is going to have quite a shopping list to work through. Thank you all for all the positive feedback!”

“A little bit more about us…
This little band was formed to have fun reimagining mostly 70s covers, but not the usual lot you might expect. Wait until you hear some of these songs and you’re like, “Hey, I know that song! I can’t believe they’re playing that!” But don’t underestimate original material. Brandon and Mick are both powerhouses.

“This is going to be fun as we slowly start to get this off the ground! From the R-Mob, thank you all so much!”

So, it looks like the most notable cover band since Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. A more fitting name than The Rockett Mafia might have been That ’70s Band. It’ll be interesting to see what original material the band comes up with. Not much has been revealed yet other than the band’s name, so stay tuned for more details if you’re really into washed-up D-list rock stars covering songs from when your parents were kids.
