Authorities in the state of Chihuahua are investigating the presence of the Tren de Aragua gang in the border area

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) – The Chihuahua Secretary of Public Security (SSPE) continues to investigate the possible criminal activities of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua in the state and specifically in Ciudad Juárez.

ABC-7 reached out to the state agency to hear what the secretary has discovered so far. A spokesperson for the secretary said they have been aware of the gang’s possible activities in Chihuahua for two years.

They also said that state police have not identified or confirmed a full presence on state territory, or that the gang is working with other local Mexican gangs or cartels. However, they have been in communication with authorities in South America and the U.S. to prevent more criminal activity related to Tren de Aragua.

Jorge Armendáriz, spokesman for SSPE, said the agency is aware that Venezuelan gang members tend to operate in the background, meaning they do not disclose their ties to this gang, unlike others with ties to known cartels in Mexico and Central America.

Armendáriz added that the way Tren de Aragua operates makes it difficult to profile and identify gang members in Chihuahua.
