The Buffalo Bills are 2-0 entering Week 3 Monday night football showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In two games, the Bills have scored a combined 65 points on their opponents. After exorcising their Hail Murray demons in Week 1, Buffalo completely overwhelmed the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium.

Now they return home to host a familiar AFC South opponent in primetime — a Jaguars team that has given the Bills everything they could in recent seasons. Jacksonville may not have won a game this season, but they lead the all-time head-to-head series at 10-9 and have suffered frustrating losses to the Bills Mafia in their last two games.

It may feel like these are two teams headed in opposite directions right now, but it’s rarely the case that the fate of an NFL team is decided by Week 3 — even at 0-2. Make no mistake, as strange as it sounds, it’s possible the Bills could punch above their weight class this season — given the changes at nearly every position.

Do you have confidence in the current direction the Bills are going under head coach Sean McDermott?

Since quarterback Josh Allen entered the league, all four games against the Jaguars have been decided by a touchdown or less, meaning every point carries extra weight, including the kicking game.

With Tuesday’s news that the Bills have cut kickers Cade York and Anders Carlson, it makes sense that kicker Tyler Bass is on thin ice. Through two games this season, Bass has made 3 of 4 field goals and converted all eight of his extra-point attempts. Bass’ lone miss came late against Miami, with Buffalo comfortably ahead.

Where he struggled the most was on special teams kickoffs, particularly in Week 1 when he couldn’t get the ball into the end zone in the fourth quarter and a high wind. That inefficiency led to a kick-return touchdown and also caused him to kick a kick out of bounds before the end zone, which resulted in a penalty.

Some may have seen the Week 1 blunders as factors that undermined Buffalo’s chances of winning, but ultimately Bass didn’t cost the team a win, indirectly or otherwise.

So why is One Bills trying drive kickers — does it have something to do with Bass’s leg strength and the recent trend of kicker after kicker throwing multiple 50-plus yard field goals? Are they simply ready to move on from Tyler Bass, regardless of the nearly $7.4 million in additional dead cap space they’d be taking on? Holding on to Bass and paying him his $4.4 million contract is by far the most economical move for general manager Brandon Beane.
