Are you the new Operations Manager for Norwegian Church Aid Nigeria? – Nigeria

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has been active in Northeast Nigeria since 2017, delivering humanitarian aid and conflict areas. As a hybrid programme, NCA works closely with national partners, but also implements its projects in WASH and GBV/ASRH operationally. The country programme is embedded in the UN-led response in the BAY states (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe). From January 2025, we will start implementing our new country strategy for Nigeria and the new Operations Manager will play a key role in the success of our new strategy.

NCA is seeking a new Operations Manager in Nigeria for a one year contract with the possibility of extension. The hired individual will work closely with the Country Director and Department Heads to ensure that operational support in the areas of logistics/procurement, administration, security, human resources and capacity building is delivered effectively and efficiently for the successful implementation of the NCA country programme in Nigeria. We are looking for an individual with extensive knowledge and experience in the various areas of responsibility that fall under this position. The individual we are looking for will also have excellent leadership skills and be good at promoting a safe working environment where staff can thrive, grow and continuously develop their skills.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership to the logistics department by promoting compliance with purchasing policies and developing accountability mechanisms
  • Overseeing the HR department in the strategic management of human resources, including recruitment, succession planning, capacity development and career development
  • Ensure proper management of service and maintenance contracts for the office and expat homes and provide a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Leading Safety and Fleet Management
  • Ensure that legal commitments are entered into in accordance with national law and the NCA’s internal policies and procedures
  • Play an active role in the development and management of the NCA country programme and the Senior Management Team (SMT).

Any other relevant and related duties as required by the Country Director of the NCA Nigeria Programme.

QUALIFICATIONS / PERSONAL QUALITIES

  • Relevant higher education
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing humanitarian and/or long-term development operations in fragile and insecure areas
  • Experience in logistics/purchasing, HR/Administration, IT and safety management
  • Willingness to travel in the field and work in remote locations with minimal facilities and/or with relative safety as approved by the Safety Advisor
  • Skill and experience in managing personnel, including field personnel and remote field offices
  • Able to guide, coach and support staff in their professional development
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English is required
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Flexibility, ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Must be loyal to the Christian values ​​of Norwegian Church Aid and accept the ACT Alliance Code of Conduct
