Losses of Rs 6 trillion prevented through anti-land mafia operations: Minister

Bandung (ANTARA) – Minister of Agriculture and Physical Planning Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono confirmed that the state has tackled land mafia cases that could have led to losses of Rp6 trillion (US$391.41 million) by mid-September 2024.

“We have prevented a loss of 6 trillion rupiah from the state and the people’s fund through our anti-land mafia operations,” Yudhoyono said during the dies natalis ceremony of Padjadjaran University’s law faculty in Bandung on Thursday.

The minister stressed that the government had prevented a land mafia operation in Grobogan district in Central Java, which could potentially cause 3.4 trillion rupiah (221.8 million dollars) in losses.

“In Grobogan alone, we have prevented losses of Rs 3.4 trillion (from one case),” he stressed.

Yudhoyono said the Grobogan case showed that if left unchecked, the land mafia would suffer significant losses if investors withdrew from financing regional development.

“When they are ready for investment but their land documents are forged, their investments will not go as planned,” the minister stressed.

Yudhoyono therefore reiterated the ministry’s determination to eradicate the land mafia and confirmed that his side would work with the national police, the attorney general’s office and regional stakeholders.

The operation against the land mafia will also target ministry officials involved in the crime, he said, adding that he has named a number of individuals as targets for the operation.

“Since this is not an easy task, we expect residents to report to us any cases caused by the land mafia,” he noted.

President Joko Widodo also noted in April that land mafia practices in Indonesia have declined over the past decade as the government consistently hands out more land title certificates to rightful owners.
