(UPDATED) GISB CEO, wife and 19 others detained for seven days starting today

KUALA LUMPUR – Police arrested top executives of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB Holdings), including CEO Datuk Nasiruddin Mohd Ali and his wife, during a raid this morning.

Bernama reported that the Shah Alam High Court has approved a request for remand for all 19 people. They will be remanded in custody for seven days starting today.

According to media reports, police arrested 12 men and seven women aged between 30 and 65 in the operation that was carried out at dawn this morning at several locations, including a residential house on Jalan Imbi.

Those arrested reportedly include Nasiruddin, his wife and their two children, as well as the son of the late leader of the banned sect Al-Arqam, Ashaari Mohammad.

Other prisoners include four daughters of Ashaari, one of whom is the aforementioned wife.

After magistrate Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin decided to grant the police’s request for remand, all 19 people were taken to Shah Alam police station.

All 19 individuals are being investigated under Section 32(a) of the Child Act 2001 for allowing a child to beg or receive alms, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for inappropriate network use and Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2022 (Atipsom) for child trafficking.

In a video posted on GISB Holdings’ social media accounts, Nasiruddin previously admitted that the company had been involved in “one or two” sodomy cases in the past.

However, he denied claims that GISB Holdings indoctrinated children in its homes with a deviant ideology. The company also denied allegations of child labor and distanced itself from homes raided by police.

Meanwhile, Police Inspector Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed earlier today that five men suspected of having links to GISB Holdings have also been remanded in custody at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court.

Their pre-trial detention also ends on September 25.

The five men, one of whom is believed to be the son of a GISB Holdings leader, are being investigated under Section 12 of the Atipsom Act for human trafficking.

They were arrested earlier at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border on their way to Thailand at around 6pm yesterday, with police seizing two camper vans bearing the company’s logo and registration numbers X31337 and X37313.

On September 11, police raided 20 nursing homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan as part of a major operation called Ops Global, arresting 171 people, including hostel managers and teaching staff.

Authorities also rescued 402 children aged one to 17 from centres linked to GISB Holdings.

Razarudin previously said health checks of 392 children rescued from the homes revealed that the victims were physically and emotionally abused and were also victims of labour exploitation.

Four individuals linked to the company have since been charged with numerous crimes, including child sexual abuse and criminal harassment. – September 19, 2024
