Hamilton youth worker charged with sexual abuse

Hamilton police fear there could be more victims after a youth worker in the city allegedly sexually exploited and assaulted a young person.

According to police, the suspect was in a position of authority and, as part of his job, “responsible” for the youths when the alleged incident occurred.

Police have not released information about the victim’s age or the date of the alleged attack.

Police said a suspect, identified as Scott Shewfelt of Dunnville, was arrested last week and charged in connection with the investigation.

“It has been confirmed that Scott Shewfelt is a youth worker. Hamilton Police believe there may be additional victims and encourage anyone with information to come forward,” the department said in a news release issued Thursday.

Police are asking anyone with information about the investigation to contact them at 905-546-4823 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
