UNICEF’s Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC) in Budapest, Hungary, provides finance, human resources, payroll and information technology services to UNICEF offices worldwide.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF GSSC is seeking a dedicated, independent Data Analyst with strong domain and technical knowledge of data analytics and visualization to support the management of the payroll and offboarding team. The analyst must also be able to coordinate within a dynamic and multi-cultural team environment.

Summary of key functions/responsibilities:

Within the delegated authority, the Senior Data Analyst Associate is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Clean, process, and validate data collected from various sources to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of the analysis.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insight through graphs, charts, tables, and reports. Use data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, reporting, and information sharing.
  • Provide full data analysis support independently on a large and complex component of payroll data analysis initiatives. Consult only in exceptional circumstances.
  • Serve as a central point for the coordination, monitoring, and execution of data analytics activities.
  • Contribute to knowledge management by documenting best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from data analysis.
  • Prepare draft communications regarding all aspects of data analysis, including information on available datasets, data catalogues and data analysis, revisions and other related issues, as well as preparing various periodic reports.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in organizing payroll and offboarding information from ERP and other systems, obtaining required approvals, and ensuring appropriate control systems are in place through scheduled reporting and review meetings.
  • Participate in identifying information needs and present functional designs of relevant information collection systems to support section needs.
  • Perform quantitative data analysis to assess performance, track indicators, and measure results.
  • Assist in setting up and monitoring KPIs and productivity information and support the leadership team in providing information to colleagues.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to staff on data analysis methodologies, tools and techniques.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

To qualify as an advocate for any child you have, you must…

  • A minimum requirement is a high school diploma.
  • University courses in statistics, economics, social sciences, research, data science, or other relevant fields are desirable.
  • Candidates without a college degree must have at least 7 years of relevant work experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, data analysis, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis is required for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, social sciences, research, data science or another relevant field. A relevant Master’s degree may replace two additional years.
  • Extensive knowledge of PowerBI, advanced Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR and payroll systems, including SAP, is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to interpret complex data sets and draw meaningful conclusions, are required.
  • You are expected to show initiative, be proactive and be able to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical information in a clear and useful manner are required.
  • Work experience at a development organization is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of UN/UNICEF rules, regulations and procedures is an advantage.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and collaborating with diverse stakeholders in a development or humanitarian context is an advantage.
  • Fluent command of English (oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is a big plus.
