Yudhra Review: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malavika Mohanan’s film has mind-boggling action but is hampered by a dragging and clichéd story

Name: Yudhra

Director: Ravi Udyavar

Cast: Siddhant Chaturvedi, Malavika Mohanan, Raghav Juyal, Gajraj Rao, Ram Kapoor, Raj Arjun

Writer: Farhan Akhtar, Akshat Ghildial, Shridhar Raghavan

Rating: 2.5/5

Storyline:

Yudhra (Siddhant Chaturvedi) is an orphaned boy with severe anger issues. He grows up to be a rowdy boy who gets himself into trouble time and again. Yudhra’s uncle Rehman (Ram Kapoor), who is a member of the special forces, suggests to Kartik Rathore (Gajraj Rao), Yudhra’s adoptive father who was once a colleague of Yudhra’s real father in the police force (and now a politician), to send him to the army so that he can better utilize his strengths. Yudhra learns discipline. After Yudhra is expelled from the army for nearly killing a bully, his uncle asks him to become an undercover agent for the police.

Yudhra is assigned to bust a drug racket involving very influential names, who are also responsible for the death of his parents.

Raj Arjun plays the role of the drug mafia, Feroz. Raghav Juyal plays Shafiq, the son of Feroz. Malavika Mohanan is Rehman’s daughter who gets dragged into the mess. She plays the role of Yudhra’s love interest.

Will Yudhra be able to dismantle the drug trade? Are there traitors? Watch the film to find out.

What works for Yudhra:

Yudhra boasts of mind-boggling action sequences and most of these scenes are so brutal that they will leave you in awe. It would not be wrong to say that the action sequences of the film are the biggest highlight. As far as the music is concerned, it is refreshing with Saathiya being the best of the songs. The camera work and cinematography are top-notch and it makes the film visually quite appealing.

What doesn’t work for Yudhra:

Yudhra feels very long-winded and too long-winded despite its modest running time. Neither the story is new nor the storytelling is very appealing. The film does not really grab you and a compelling screenplay is the most important thing for a film in this genre. The writing is lazy and the twists do not surprise you at all. On the contrary, a few make you laugh. The characters in the film are too basic and monotonous. With the kind of action in Yudhra, a better and more compelling story could have done wonders.

Performances in Yudhra:

Siddhant Chaturvedi plays his part, quite well. He excels in the action parts, but his acting in the dramatic parts could have had more impact. Malavika Mohanan as Nikhat is good, but the story doesn’t give her much to work with. Raghav Juyal as Shafiq is reliable. Ram Kapoor and Gajraj Rao play the expected roles. Raj Arjun as drug mafia Feroz is the best actor. Other supporting actors do credible work.

Yudhra’s Final Verdict:

Yudhra has phenomenal action scenes, but the slow and clichéd story makes Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malavika Mohanan’s film a disappointing one.
