“BJP governments across the country are working on policies to transform police from protectors into predators. Under BJP governments, the criminal attitude of police towards crimes against women is flourishing by getting protection from those in power. In such a situation, what are women supposed to do for safety and justice, where are they supposed to go?” she also posted on Twitter.

At a press conference on the issue, Congress spokesperson and chairperson of social media and digital platforms Supriya Shrinate also criticized the BJP governments. “Women are not safe even in police stations in BJP-ruled states,” she said.

She highlighted the irony that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken about women empowerment in the same state, but within 72 hours of his speech, a woman was subjected to brutal torture, including sexual exploitation, at a police station by some monstrous policemen.
