‘Land mafia’ sets fire to at least 34 houses in Dalit village in Bihar (The Hindu)

A Dalit all (hamlet) was attacked and at least 34 houses were set on fire by suspected land mafia at Krishna Nagar village under Mufassil police station in Nawada district of Bihar on Wednesday night.

According to villagers, the land mafia, which consisted of dozens of members, is said to have fired several bullets.

There is panic among the people living in the village and the police are constantly conducting raids to catch the perpetrators. So far 15 people have been arrested by the police.

On Thursday, Nawada police issued a press release stating that 34 families’ houses were burnt down, 21 completely and 13 partially, by thugs. There were no reports of casualties.

Eleven people, including the main suspect Nandu Paswan, were arrested till Wednesday evening. Four more people were arrested on Thursday morning.
