US Secretary of State Praises US-Belize Partnership on Independence Day

Blinken’s statement not only honored Belize’s sovereignty, but also underscored the growing partnership between Belize and the United States.

In his speech, Blinken praised our enduring democratic values ​​and both countries’ shared commitment to the rule of law and human rights. “Our values-based partnership is exemplified in our joint work, from migration management to climate change efforts,” Blinken noted.

Belize has emerged as a regional leader in humane migration management, supported by the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, and continues to lead in addressing transnational crime and environmental issues. Blinken also highlighted Belize’s role as President Pro Tempore of the Regional Conference on Migration, further demonstrating our commitment to progress in the region.

A key highlight of the U.S.-Belize partnership is the $125 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Belize Compact, signed earlier this year. This initiative is designed to promote sustainable and responsible economic development and ensure that future generations of Belizeans benefit from a safer and more secure future.

As we celebrate this milestone, Blinken reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continue fostering strong ties and mutual cooperation. “We are proud of our shared efforts to ensure a prosperous future for our people,” Blinken said.
