Capital sees 25% increase in robberies – Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The capital city saw a 25 percent increase in robberies last week, with 55 robberies recorded compared to the previous week when 44 cases of robberies were recorded.

According to data compiled by Business Recorder, over 55 cases of robberies were reported at the capital’s high-security police stations, where citizens were robbed of valuables worth millions of rupees in the past week. During the same period, the city saw a 28 percent increase in carjacking incidents as over 79 cases of carjacking were reported to the city police, compared to 94 cases registered at various police stations in the previous week. During the same period, one person was murdered within the limits of Kohsar police station.

During the past week, criminal gangs were most active within the Industrial Area, Khanna, Shehzad Town, Secretariat, Aabpara and Hummak police station limits. During the period under review, carjackers stole 10 motorcycles from the Industrial Area police station limits; eight motorcycles were stolen from the Kohsar police station jurisdiction, eight bicycles from the Margalla police station limits, six from Khanna police station and another seven bicycles from the Shehzad Town police station jurisdiction.

Furthermore, five cases of theft, two cases of street crime and ten cases of carjacking were reported at the Industrial Area Police Station. At the Khanna Police Station, six cases of carjacking, two cases of street crime, two robberies and five cases of theft were registered. At the Shehzad City Police Station, four cases of theft, three cases of street crime and seven cases of carjacking were reported.

Also, robbers struck at three places, car thieves stole eight bicycles from Kohsar police station and five cases of car theft and three cases of street crime were reported at Aabpara police station in the past week.

During the period under investigation, six cases of carjacking, three cases of street crime and one case of robbery were reported to the Hummak police station.
