Frances Fitzgerald Ambassador for Ruhama

Frances Fitzgerald Ambassador for Ruhama

Ruhama is an Irish NGO that provides support services to women involved in prostitution and victims of sex trafficking. The organisation is primarily a frontline service and began its work in 1989 as an outreach service for women in street prostitution. Over the years the service has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of women. Some of these changes reflect the changing nature of the Irish sex trade which has become more globalised, predominantly domestic and controlled by organised crime.

Ruhama’s services are comprehensive and operate a unique working model unmatched by any other agency in Ireland.

France Fitzgerald was recently appointed the first-ever ambassador for Ruhama, an organization she has “long admired.”

Frances is a powerful voice for the silenced and oppressed – an advocate for the rights of women and girls, she said: “During my time in Ireland and Brussels, I have worked to create new legislation and policies that defend women’s rights and protect survivors of sexual exploitation.

Together with the amazing and passionate team at Ruhama, we continue to work towards a world where no girl or woman is exploited.”

We at WMB thank Frances for being a fantastic role model, supporting Ruhama’s work as part of her broad portfolio for positive change.
