A new study shows that Miami is once again one of the most popular destinations to move to.

New data from Remitly shows that Miami has taken third place in a global ranking of the best alternative moving destinations, beating Dubai, which was the most sought-after city last year.

To determine the most desired destinations, researchers used Google search data.

They searched across all languages ​​to determine the annual search volume – from June 2023 to May 2024 – in 98 countries for the term “moving to (city).” All capital cities and the most searched destinations in each country were removed, Remitly said.

The second-most searched location was used as the top destination for the specific country, and the overall ranking was compiled by adding up how often each city was mentioned as a top choice for another country, the researchers noted.

The results showed that 10 countries worldwide had actually chosen Miami as their top ‘alternative relocation capital’.

Miami was beaten out by Barcelona, ​​which secured second place, and Vancouver, which was the top choice for 17 countries – ultimately placing it at number 1 on the list.

Data shows that the 10 countries that chose Miami as their top alternative relocation destination are Canada, Chile, Grenada, India, Malawi, Myanmar, Suriname, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Analysts at Remitly said migrants consider proximity to the sun and sea when looking for a new place to call home, partly attributing those factors to the top five destinations of Miami, Barcelona, ​​Dubai and Valencia.

Miami also ranks fourth when it comes to the choice of Americans looking to move to another state.

Meanwhile, Kansas City was the most popular choice for people in the US, with 11 states voting it their top alternative moving capital.

Chicago was ranked No. 2 and Seattle was ranked No. 3, while Charlotte secured the fifth spot.
