Supreme Court orders all courts

The Court stressed that the term “child sexual abuse material” (CSEAM) better reflects the reality of these images and videos. These images and videos are not only pornographic, but also accounts of incidents involving the sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children, or depictions of such abuse through self-generated visual representations.

“The term ‘child sexually abusive and exploitative material’ (CSEAM) rightly focuses on the exploitation and abuse of the child, and emphasises the criminal nature of the act and the need for a serious and robust response,” added it.

The Supreme Court has therefore directed all courts in the country to stop using the term ‘child pornography’ and instead use the term CSEAM in their orders and judgments.
