Badlapur sex abuse: PM accused of school caretaker killed in crossfire with police

A caretaker of a school in Badlapur, accused of sexually abusing two minor girls, died of bullet wounds on Monday.

Akshay Shinde died of injuries he sustained during exchange of fire with police personnel on Mumbai Ring Road in Thane district, according to Thane police.

Thane police revealed that Shinde took out a pistol and shot at an assistant police inspector while he was trying to escape from the police.

The police had to fire back at the suspect who was shot and taken to hospital. The incident took place while Shinde was being escorted from Taloja Jail to Thane.

Shinde was accused of assaulting two four-year-old girls in the toilet of the school where he worked as a cleaner between August 12 and 13.

Parents came out to question the safety measures taken by schools to protect young girls and students from such crimes.

The Bombay High Court on its own motion took cognizance of the matter and an SIT was constituted for further investigation.
