Socialite Don Nasser jailed for sexual assault and human trafficking

Socialite Nasser Nduhukire, alias Don Nasser, has been detained in Luzira Prison on charges of aggravated child trafficking and human rights abuses.

Nduhukire, who had been on the run for several months, was arrested last weekend in Kenya and has been repatriated to Uganda to answer the charges.

On September 23, 2024, he was summoned before the Chief Justice of the Buganda Road Magistrate Court, Ronald Kayizzi, who informed him of the charges.

Nduhukire, who describes himself as a businessman, is fighting charges of aggravated child trafficking, contrary to sections 3 (a) and 5 (a) of the Prevention of Human Trafficking Act, and of violating section 129 (1) of the Criminal Code.

He is being charged along with 19-year-old Promise Ateete, the personal assistant to Ntungamo Municipality legislator Yona Musinguzi.

Child trafficking carries the death penalty if convicted, while bodily harm can result in life imprisonment.

The magistrate read out the charges to the duo (Nduhukire and Ateete) but did not grant them permission to plead to the charges, noting that the lower court has no jurisdiction to try a capital crime like child trafficking.

“The crime of child trafficking carries a maximum penalty of death upon conviction. The lower court has no jurisdiction over the charge, which can only be heard by the High Court,” Kayizzi said.
