US Secretary of State congratulates Belize on 43rd anniversary of independence

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On September 21, 2024, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken warmly congratulated Belize on the 43rd anniversary of their independence.

He emphasized the strong partnership between the United States and Belize and stressed their shared commitment to democratic values, human rights and the rule of law.

“Our enduring bond is anchored in our shared commitment to democratic values, the rule of law, and respect for human rights for all. Our values-based partnership is exemplified by our work together and in Belize’s remarkable leadership in supporting humane migration governance through the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, and serving as President Pro Tempore of the Regional Conference on Migration,” Blinken said.

He also stressed joint efforts to combat cross-border crime and tackle climate change, thus ensuring a safer future for both countries.

Blinken also celebrated recent successes, including the signing of the $125 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Belize Compact, a testament to the close partnership between the two countries.
