Regional Project Coordinator – Myanmar and Thailand

To manage a new regional project covering Myanmar and Thailand, Malteser International is looking for a Regional Project Coordinator who lives in Myanmar or Thailand and travels regularly to both countries.

As Regional Project Coordinator you will oversee project implementation and provide overall leadership and effective coordination to the MI project teams and partners in Myanmar and Thailand. The role is expected to maintain a strong presence in Myanmar as 90% of project activities are expected to be conducted in Myanmar.

Your responsibilities:

  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the project in Myanmar and Thailand, ensuring that activities are delivered on time, within budget and in line with donor requirements.
  • Lead and manage the project team, ensure effective coordination and performance management, and provide capacity building support to strengthen the skills and performance of both staff and partners.
  • In coordination with the Access Points at the MI programme sites, work with civil society organisations, local governments and other stakeholders to strengthen resilience in affected communities and operationalise the HDP Nexus approach
  • In collaboration with the country MEAL team, develop and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the impact of project interventions and adapt activities as needed
  • Ensure timely and high-quality reporting to MI and donors, including financial and narrative reports, and maintain regular exchanges with MI entities in country and at headquarters to support communications with donors and key stakeholders.
  • Identify potential risks to project implementation, including political and security risks, and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with internal and donor policies
  • Represent Malteser International in relevant forums and working groups and advocate for the project objectives at local, national and international levels

Your profile:

  • A master’s degree in international development, project management, public health, humanitarian studies or related fields is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in project management in humanitarian, development or conflict sensitive environments, preferably in conflict or crisis affected regions; Working experience in the region is a strong asset
  • In-depth knowledge of the HDP Nexus and proven experience in sectors such as health, nutrition, climate resilience or peacebuilding; expertise with German donors is a strong asset
  • Demonstrable leadership and team management experience, with the ability to promote collaboration across multicultural teams and diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in designing and implementing M&E frameworks and adapting project strategies based on evidence and lessons learned
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of local languages ​​(Burmese, Thai) or German is a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse cultural settings and navigate complex socio-political environments, as well as willingness to travel regularly to field locations in Myanmar and Thailand in accordance with safety and security recommendations

  • Location: Myanmar or Thailand. Due to visa restrictions in Myanmar, frequent travel outside the country is considered with the possibility of being based in the region
  • Contract duration: 3 years
  • Salary according to qualifications and experience, insurance package
