A former Stockton Springs police officer will spend 10 years behind bars in 2021 for sexually abusing a girl.

According to the Midcoast Villager, Christopher Hast, 35, of Searsport, was convicted of aggravated sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of sexually explicit material.

His sentence was pronounced on Thursday.

Hast began sexually abusing the girl in the spring of 2021. The attacks became more frequent over the summer, until the week before his arrest.

The abuse came to light after the girl reported it to a school counselor. On October 29, 2021, Maine State Police opened an investigation into Hast.

He was arrested on November 1, 2021.

Hast worked for the Stockton Springs Police Department from 2015 until his arrest. He also worked part-time for the Thomaston Police Department between 2015 and 2018 and served as a patrolman at the Knox County Courthouse, the Midcoast Villager reported.

Hast is being held at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. He will not be eligible for release until Sept. 19, 2032, the Maine Department of Corrections said.
