IGP calls for UNODC support for training to combat transnational crime

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam today sought the cooperation of UNODC for various training programmes of Bangladesh Police.

The IGP made the appeal when a four-member delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), led by Marco Teixeira, the Representative for South Asia, paid him a courtesy visit at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) this afternoon.

The meeting focused on modern training at home and abroad and logistic support for the Bangladesh Police to combat the increasing crime, cybercrime, money laundering, transnational crime and human trafficking. It also addressed protection of human rights, crisis management and maintenance of law and order.

The IGP thanked the UNODC authorities for their cooperation in various training courses for the Bangladesh Police, a press release from the PHQ said.

The police chief expressed the hope that cooperation within the UNODC in the field of training of police personnel will continue in the coming days.

The delegation also assured the police of full cooperation in capacity building of the Bangladesh Police.
