Nothin’ Sez Somethin’: Sound Systember 27

Young warrior

Since I have claimed Jah Shaka, Dub Warrior, as the father of modern UK Sound System culture, I would be remiss to overlook his son and heir, Young warrior.

Young Warrior is known far and wide as the Prince of Dub Sound Systems. He is one of the cornerstones of the next generation of British Dub reggae. Young Warrior has been working as a producer for many years and has collaborated with the likes of Jah Shaka, Gussie P, Mafia & Fluxy, Ras Muffet and many more. His productions have been played by Sound Systems throughout the UK. In 2011, after many years of demand, Young Warrior built and launched its own Sound System at Dubwise Festival 2011 alongside King Alpha Sound System at London’s Brixton Mass music venue.

Since launching his Sound System he has played alongside many big name Sounds such as Iration Steppas, Jah Tubby’s, Jah Youth, Channel One, King Shiloh and many more. One of his Sound System’s proudest moments was the launch of Birmingham’s largest Dub Sound System event, OneDub in the Rainbow Warehouse.

The Young Warrior’s sets combine the latest with old skool Sound, playing Dub, Roots and culture from the 70’s to the present in the traditional Shaka Warrior style, connecting with the elderly who attend Shaka dances, but also with the young, the new generation so that everyone can feel his personal, uplifting musical message, always fighting for human rights against racism.

Young Warrior’s sound system was stolen in 2021. The independent musician and sound systems engineer’s van and sound equipment were stolen from outside his home in the Catford area just before 2pm on Monday, March 8. A GoFundme has raised £15,380 towards the £20,000 cost of the system. If you feel like helping out, head here.

After the theft, Young Warrior said:
“Just as we were about to embark on a path of recovery from the (COVID) lockdown so that live events could restart, I can’t believe this has happened.”

Here’s a 7″ single he released on Jah Shaka Music around the same time…

Young Warrior is currently working hard to rebuild his sound system while recording other artists, managing Jah Shaka Records and deejaying at Trinity Music & Unit 137 Sound. Young Warrior has built some great working relationships with many major international organizations and cross-genre artists to keep Dub Reggae Music seen and heard in the mainstream. He has worked with organizations including MTV, Sound System Outernational, Sonic Street Technologies, Goldsmiths University, Lewisham Council, London Southbank, The British Arts Council, World Mental Health Day, University of the West Indies & V&A Museums.

Without a doubt, Young Warrior holds its title as the Prince Of Dub sound system!
