Readers complain about Trump’s lawlessness, Mayor Adams’ indictments, and regulatory oversight

In some people’s eyes, Donald can do no wrong

Mechanicville, NY: Donald Trump gets away with dodging consequences for everything he illegally violates. Why is this contempt for the rule of law what his supporters admire about him? Throughout his life, it has been documented and proven that he cheated and got away with everything he did to satisfy his insatiable hunger for wealth and power.

Trump uses people to carry out his demands so that they take the blame for his illegal activities. He forces everyone who works for him to make written promises of loyalty – non-disclosure agreements and prenuptial agreements. Look how many of his allies were found guilty and received a last-minute pardon and reduced sentence from Trump.

Those who abandon him face the harshest retribution. On the first day, he admits that he will punish those who exposed his illegalities. He has been impeached twice for very serious reasons, and too many of our elected officials are guilty of illegally aiding and abetting his unlawful behavior. His statements are recorded everywhere and these threats can be seen on YouTube.

Trump knows he is guilty of all the charges he continues to face. That’s why he constantly threatens everyone. There is no “deep state” out to get him just because they don’t like him. Ask devoted MAGA followers to intelligently explain why half of America dislikes and distrusts him. He has failed to “Make America Great Again,” along with so many other campaign promises. William C. Smith

Clutter maker

Manhattan: Oh, poor, poor voter Phyllis Tropea! She claims Trump will clean up all our messes. Trump was president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 and he did nothing. But he created a lot of new mess: the largest national debt in history, an escalation of hate crimes, and a country unprepared for an international pandemic that ultimately killed a million Americans. He never closed borders or made Mexico pay for them. Why would anyone invite him back to Washington to fail a second time? Hey, Phyllis, I’ve got some bridges to sell you. Sam Katz

Only legal

Richmond Hill: To voice actress Gina Ottrando: You say “which immigrants are considered acceptable.” Yes, the immigrants who are considered acceptable are legal immigrants! Why is it so difficult to understand the difference between legal and illegal? Myself, my brothers and our wives are all first-generation children of (here comes that word again) legal immigrants. I’m sure the two Trump wives you mentioned were both legal immigrants. Our country and our cities cannot accommodate and care for the incredible numbers of migrants – millions upon millions – while deserving citizens like veterans and others are denied proper services. So, Gina, look up the words “legal” and “illegal” and see if you can understand the difference. Joseph Napoleone

Clearly stated

Fairfield, Conn.: Voicer Sal Iteonadis stated that Democrats now have a candidate who has accomplished nothing in three years and does not specifically lay out her policies. Can I assume you haven’t seen the debate? I believe she has expressed her vision very clearly – and continues to do so, unlike her opponent, who offers ‘concepts’. As for not getting anything done in the last three years, can you list everything Mike Pence has accomplished during Trump’s presidency? Stefan Johnson

Freak show

Scarborough, NY: I recommend the current comedy production “Adams Family” – Mayor Adams, his girlfriend, his sister-in-law, the Banks brothers, Sheena Wright, the Caban brothers, Tim Pearson, Kaz Daughtry, Winnie Greco, Rana Abbasova and others get their resumes in order, because that clown show will not be extended. Thomas F. Comiskey

Play them out

Union, NJ: Come on, sing along with me, you know the tune! They’re corrupt and they’re corrupt / No one can be trusted / One by one they’re being rounded up / The Adams family! / The city was a dream / Now it’s a mausoleum / You really want to scream / Thank you Adam’s family. Lou Alt

Fair in war

Vlissingen: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted her disapproval of Israel for detonating pagers used exclusively by Hezbollah members because nearby Lebanese civilians were injured. But Hezbollah only distributed the pagers to its own members. None were distributed to civilians. Thus, Israel’s decision to detonate them was intended to target Hezbollah members only, and to prevent harm to civilians not affiliated with Hezbollah. This decision should teach Hezbollah members to distance themselves from Lebanese civilians. These blasts saved Israeli lives in the short term by disrupting Hezbollah members’ ability to communicate their plans to continue firing rockets into Israeli cities. Theodore Sheskin

Tricky trucks

Hong Kong: I am a native New Yorker living abroad. On a recent family visit, I was shocked to see food trucks outside the Museum of Natural History and the Met with no prices on their wares and – surprisingly – charging outlandish prices. If this practice does not violate consumer protection law, it certainly should. Moreover, it involves the entire city in price gouging and gives New York a black eye as a tourist destination. Our city must do better. Muhammad Cohen

Local charge

Manhattan: Reading the September 23 editorial ‘Congestion pricing countdown’, which also discussed UN traffic issues, reminded me of a recent statement by London Prof. Tony Travers that traffic there did not drop after the toll. So I don’t expect a better outcome in my neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, where the NYPD continues to keep Park Row, a major north/south thoroughfare, closed for use as a parking lot for Police Plaza staff. Those living in the toll zone will certainly face higher costs. The old saying “companies don’t pay taxes, consumers pay” will undoubtedly prevail. As far as the UN is concerned, has anyone ever looked at the amount of tax breaks for consulates, the cost of police protection, the lost business revenue during the meeting because people avoided the city, or the taxes lost on the UN building itself? Isn’t it time for another country to enjoy the dubious advantage of having the UN headquarters there? Johannes Oost

On roll

Garwood, NJ: After the Jaguars’ absolute defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills, 47-10, on Monday night, the Daily News sports department may now give them more than one paragraph a week. After all, they are the one and only New York football team. I can’t wait to see in two weeks when the Bills play your precious Jets and we kick Aaron Rodgers’ ass again! Go bill mafia! John E. Deichmeister

Parental responsibility

Stratford, Conn.: Enough! If they catch these young people making mass shooting threats online, the parents should be held liable for any overtime or costs borne by the city’s school district. Let them refinance their home, take out a second mortgage, dip into their child’s college funds or their own retirement savings – let it hurt. Let’s see how this affects these losers as they and their parents move in with Grandma in her one-bedroom apartment, or live under the I-95 underpass. It starts with the parents. Having children is a privilege, not a right. Stop counting on anyone but yourself to take responsibility for educating your children properly. And start printing their names. If they’re old enough to break the law, they’re also old enough to have their and their families’ names printed! Peter Sulzicki

Guns amok

Dobbs Ferry, NY: I read in the paper that stop-and-frisk is back and is being used illegally. Let me present the jury with the following scenario: You live in the city with your family and you smell smoke from the floors below you. You call the fire brigade and they go to the wrong address – worse, they don’t show up at all. The police captain has seen an increase in the number of victims shot with guns. Where should he deploy the most agents? Your Honor, I hope the burning building you are in is not also included in this order. Like Chicago, NYC has some of the strictest gun laws on the books. Why are they not enforced? Randy Jurgensen
