Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work with people affected by violent conflict to enhance their safety and dignity through unarmed civil protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.

Overview

NP first established itself in Ukraine in 2014/2015 and worked on peacebuilding and conflict mediation. NP has had a sustainable presence in Ukraine since April 2022. NP occupies a unique place in the protection response in Ukraine; simultaneously providing direct protection to civilians at risk and providing practical support to volunteer collectives on the front lines to directly contribute to the sustainability and safety of their actions.

Task overview

The Team Leader (TL) is responsible for on-site management of an NP field team. This includes ensuring effective implementation of civil protection programming, while providing human resources management, on-site financial and administrative functions, coordination with headquarters regarding logistics and procurement and ensuring compliance with security policies and the NP procedures and the country strategy. The TL is the primary representative of NP at coordination meetings with NGO partners and government agencies and departments in the field team’s work area.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensure that all personnel align with and uphold the organization’s mission and values.
  • Fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, communities and partners to enhance the organization’s reputation.
  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from concept to evaluation, and ensure effective communication of project progress.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the field team, promoting a collaborative and motivated work environment.
  • Contribute to generating creative and effective program strategies and sharing insights with senior management.
  • Provide on-site supervision to assess project implementation and address issues quickly.
  • Enforcing organizational processes and protocols to maintain operational efficiency and transparency.
  • Ensuring that reports meet high standards, are submitted on time and accurately reflect project results.
  • Tracking financial resources to ensure compliance with budgetary allocations and identifying areas for cost optimization.
  • Implement measures to protect the well-being of field teams and work with external partners to address security concerns.

Qualifications

  • University degree in refugee law, human rights, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, negotiation, mediation, human security or related fields.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in human security, child protection, refugee or civil protection.
  • Demonstrated management experience working in a complex security environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with government agencies, negotiating and mediation.
  • Demonstrated ability to live, work and solve problems independently and effectively in remote, highly challenging locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze conflict, security and political contexts.
  • Contextual knowledge of Ukraine is highly desirable.
