Gynecologist – occupied Palestinian territory

Program Summary:

The portfolio in the Gaza Strip focuses on healthcare, mental health, protection and WASH programs in collaboration with local NGOs. Our activities include the operation of several primary and sexual reproductive health clinics managed by local Project HOPE staff.

This position will be based in Gaza. Local nationals only.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The gynecologist is responsible for conducting consultations in clinics to diagnose, treat and manage patients according to medical standards and protocols.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing healthcare related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment in accordance with clinical guidelines and hygiene protocols.
  • Supporting the management of the maternity hospitals in collaboration with Senior Country Team Leadership.
  • Interpret test results, discuss treatment and medications, and counsel patients on issues related to reproductive and maternal health.
  • Ensure implementation of Project HOPE clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics to minimize clinical risk and expand best reproductive practices.
  • Determine when to discharge or transfer patients so that referrals are managed efficiently and complications are minimized.
  • Controlling the rational distribution of medicines and equipment; ensure sterilization and proper maintenance of medical equipment, report any malfunctions to manager.
  • Keep the patient and family informed about the disease and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to be followed; verify understanding to ensure informed consent and adherence.
  • Ensure that general hygiene standards and universal precautions are always adhered to and implement and monitor actions to reduce risks from biological hazards and improve infection control.
  • Ensure that medical decisions are made with the highest level of integrity and ethics, in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Ensure midwives and nurses have clear objectives, receive mentorship and participate in capacity building opportunities.
  • Ensure data collected is accurate and report reports as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, with specialization in gynecology/obstetrics required. A postgraduate degree in Medicine is desirable.
  • One year of experience working in public or private nursing schools, hospitals, experience with other NGOs, desirable.
  • Understand humanitarian work/have worked with vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of the environment, understanding of Gaza’s healthcare system and social protection system
  • Have compassion and good bedside manner.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues and staff in a clear and concise manner.
  • Fluent command of the Arabic language is required, English highly desirable.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment.

  • This position is based in Gaza. Given the current conflict conditions, the candidate must be able to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • The position will be in an environment with few resources and austere living conditions.
  • Travel for longer periods may take place by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardships.”
