Random Thoughts Friday, Part CXCIII – National Zero

  • The garden sign is up. The sticker is on the car. My ballot has arrived. This shit is real.
  • Eric Adams is being sued for failing to report luxury trips paid for by others, while Sam Alito and Clarence Thomas grin.
  • If anyone continues to say they don’t know Harris’ positions on certain issues, it is out of willful ignorance at this point. Her programs are much more detailed than Trump’s, whether you think she’s done enough interviews or not. Trump’s “Fear the Migrant/Raise Rates” policy will somehow surpass lost income tax revenue while raising worker wages, providing universal child care, funding IVF for all, eliminating the entire federal deficit AND reducing consumer costs decrease. Plus tax cuts. And Trump will do it all with five loaves and two fish.
  • Not a single dollar of federal aid should go to Florida for Hurricane Helene until the state government commits reinstating climate change lessons in school curricula at every level.
  • Trump: “The American economy is terrible! It’s terrible! No one can buy anything necessary to survive anymore, like food and Twinkies!” Also Trump: “Buy my new $100,000 watch!”
  • Almost four years ago to the dayDonald Trump said that if voters choose Joe Biden, it would “destroy our country” and “we will go into a depression.” Today, the Dow once again reached a new record and initial unemployment claims reached one four months low. Perhaps he used the ‘royal we’.
  • A $1.8 billion gift from Michael Bloomberg reduced student debt at my alma mater, it now ranks last in average student educational debt among national universities. That’s how billionaires should use their money. As one unknown television commentator said, “I miss the days when the filthy rich just wanted to have their names in museums and libraries.”
  • Social media sometimes makes me wish I was illiterate.
  • The crime rate in the US is falling while the number of migrants is increasing. So it wasn’t all migrants that caused the crime rate spike in 2020, right? Maybe they are not the ones who need to be deported to make the country safe.
  • As a former journalist and currently ersatz journalist, I’m not shocked by Olivia Nuzzi’s e-canoodling with RFK Jr. (It makes me sick, but that’s another issue.) It’s not unheard of for reporters and subjects to get involved . But a reporter who was sexually involved with a presidential candidate during the damn campaign
  • Do you think JD Vance deliberately makes his wife mad at him so he can spend the night? of on the couch?
  • Somehow I think a real estate developer who continues to sell silver coins, NFTs, sneakers, and Bibles while his multi-billion dollar social media business teeters on the brink of failure and faces multiple criminal charges after being convicted for 34 felonies, takes no action seriously about the job he is applying for.
  • I have to start making eggs for breakfast again one weekend morning. Nothing fancy: sunny side up and a piece of toast. Scrambled eggs or an omelet if I’m feeling particularly ambitious after coffee. The weather will soon become cool enough while it will be ideal.
  • I’m not sure what astronomical or astrological sign it is, but Earth picking up a second moon for just a few months before the election cannot be a good omen.
  • If it is true that the Tangerine tyrant thinks that ‘asylum seekers’ at the border mean they are people released from mental institutions in their home countries, it is not a stretch to think that Trump also believes the ‘transnational gangs’ Kamala Harris speaks in policy speeches about violent transgender groups who forcibly initiate people into their gangs by implementing gender reassignments in schools.
  • I’m really looking forward to seeing how former teacher Tim Walz teaches Yale snob JD Vance how to communicate with the American public during Tuesday’s debate. It’s getting wild.
