India calls Pakistan’s statements ‘hypocrisy at its worst’

What’s the story

India has fired back at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Sharid had said that to “secure peace”, India must roll back the abrogation of Article 370 and engage in dialogue for a “peaceful” resolution of the J&K issue.

Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan called Sharif’s statement “hypocrisy at its worst.”

She slammed Pakistan for criticizing the world’s largest democracy despite the country being notorious for terrorism, drug trafficking and cross-border crime.

India highlights Pakistan’s history of cross-border terrorism

Mangalanandan pointed to Pakistan’s long-standing habit of using cross-border terrorism against its neighbors, including the attacks on the Indian parliament and the financial capital Mumbai.

She also cited the irony of a country with a history of rigged elections, discussing political choices within a democracy.

“The real truth is that Pakistan covets our territory and has continuously used terrorism to disrupt elections in Jammu and Kashmir, an inalienable and integral part of India,” she added.

Pakistani Prime Minister’s Statements on Kashmir Labeled ‘Unacceptable’

Mangalanandan called Sharif’s comments on Kashmir ‘unacceptable’ and predicted that Pakistan would respond to the truth with more lies.

She stated firmly: “Repetition will not change anything. Our position is clear and needs no repetition.”

Despite Pakistan’s relentless attempts to raise the Kashmir issue at various UN forums, India has consistently maintained that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are and always will be an integral part of the country.

Speech by the Pakistani Prime Minister on Kashmir and India

In his UNGA speech, Sharif spoke extensively about Kashmir, comparing the struggle in the region to the Palestinian cause.

He further said that Muslims are being targeted in India and the rise in Islamophobia is a worrying global development.

“The most alarming manifestation of Islamophobia is the supremacist agenda of Hindus in India. It aggressively seeks the subjugation of 200 million Muslims and the destruction of India’s Islamic heritage,” he said.
