Haiti - Corruption: ULCC makes powerful international allies

From September 24 to 27, 2024, Haiti, represented by Me Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), participated in the 5th Plenary Meeting of the GlobE Network in Beijing (China).

This high-level forum was an opportunity for Director Joseph to engage with state anti-corruption agencies and international institutions from various countries during bilateral meetings on the fight against corruption in Haiti.

During the Forum, Me Joseph reiterated the ULCC’s commitment to work with the international community so that no refuge is given to corrupt people. “All options will be considered to combat corruption and transnational organized crime, which threaten the foundations of democracy and social justice in Haiti.”

On the sidelines of this event, the ULCC also met with representatives of anti-corruption agencies from Spain, Chile, Belgium, Kenya and India, as well as key institutions such as the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) and Interpol. All are committed to supporting the ULCC through training programs on modern research techniques, as well as the exchange of information and the conduct of joint research. These collaborations could facilitate the identification and freezing of public funds embezzled abroad, as well as the imposition of travel sanctions, or even the extradition, of Haitian personalities involved in acts of corruption and other forms of organized crime.

With this operational network of transnational cooperation, consisting of 219 anti-corruption agencies in 121 countries, the ULCC is gaining international allies to strengthen it in its mission to prevent and combat corruption in Haiti.
