On Friday, Indian Ambassador Bhavika Mangalanandan exercised her country’s right of reply at the UN General Assembly to respond to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif (UNGA).

Bhavika Mangalanandan came down heavily on the Pakistani Prime Minister for raising the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in his speech at the General Debate of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, calling it ‘hypocrisy at its worst’.

“A country ruled by the military, with a global reputation for terrorism, narcotics trafficking and transnational crime, has the audacity to attack the world’s largest democracy… The truth is that Pakistan covets our territory and has continuously used terrorism to disrupt the elections in Jammu. and Kashmir, an inalienable and integral part of India,” Mangalanandan said.

India called it a “mockery” that Pakistan, with “a global reputation for terrorism”, had “dared to attack the world’s largest democracy” and raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at the UN platform.

On Friday, Bhavika Mangalanandan criticized Pakistan’s ‘hypocrisy’ over the politicization of Kashmir and the casting of the Assembly (UNGA). In a strong rebuttal to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claims during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, the Indian envoy stressed that Pakistan had “used terrorism to disrupt the elections in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The Indian diplomat mentioned the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament.

In his speech, which lasted over 20 minutes, Sharif touched on the Jammu and Kashmir issue, referring to the abrogation of Article 370 and Hizbul militant Burhan Wani. During his speech at the UNGA, the Pakistani leader made a comparison between the situation in Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, saying that both have been fighting for their freedom and right to self-determination for a century.

Sharif further alleged that India has reneged on its obligations under the Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

IFS officer Bhavika Mangalanandan is from the batch of 2015. In 2011, she graduated from the Indian Institutes of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi) with a master’s degree in energy studies. The Indian government selects the candidate for the post of First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of India to the UN.

IFS Bhavika Mangalnandan is a native of Elamkulam, Kerala and has done MTech in Energy Studies from IIT Delhi. After this, she worked in Bangalore for some time and worked as an Assistant System Engineer at TCS and was also a Senior Engineer Marketing at Schneider Electric.

Bhavika’s mother is a government employee and works for social welfare, especially for women empowerment. Bhavika was coached from Thiruvananthapuram and her elective subject in UPSC was Geography. Bhavika cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2015 and secured 249th rank in UPSC in her third attempt.

Bhavika Mangalnandan is the Principal Secretary of the Indian Mission to the United Nations and has also worked as an Under Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Although her date of birth is unknown, she is between 30 and 35 years old.
