‘Days of Our Lives’ star Drake Hogestyn has passed away

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Drake Hogestyn, best known for his role in “Days of Our Lives,” has died. He was 70 years old.

His family released a statement on the ‘Days of Our Lives’ social media accounts, sharing that he died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.


“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” the statement said. “He was hit with the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he rose to the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After fighting an incredible battle, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He was the most wonderful husband, father, daddy and actor. He loved performing for the To dawn audience and shares the stage with the best cast, crew and production team in the industry. We love him and we will miss him all the time Days of our lives.”

According to People, Hogestyn’s death comes just before his 71st birthday on September 28.

Hogestyn graduated from Northside High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was occasionally spotted at the city’s Cindy’s Diner. He appeared and competed in the Mad Anthonys Pro-Am golf tournament in Fort Wayne in the 1990s and received the Red Coat in 1995.

He appeared on “Days of Our Lives” for nearly four decades, including numerous spinoff series in his notable role of John Black.

“His impact on our show, both personally and professionally, was profound and will forever remain unparalleled,” Ken Corday, executive producer of “Days of Our Lives,” told People.

His other credits include “Overworld,” “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” and “Criminal Minds,” according to his IMDb page.

Before his acting career, Hogestyn tried professional baseball. According to People, he signed with the New York Yankees and played for a farm team until he was injured in 1977.

He is survived by his wife Victoria Post, whom he married in 1986, as well as their four children and seven grandchildren.

Others who have died after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer include “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
