JI organizes thirteen sit-ins against expensive electricity

KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi on Sunday staged sit-ins on 13 major arterial roads in Karachi in protest against the government’s inability to provide relief to the masses due to expensive electricity and excessive taxes.

Funeral prayers were also said in absentia for Shaheed Hassan Nasarullah, the head of Hezbollah in Lebanon. JI Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar led the funeral prayer in absentia on the National Highway.

Monem Zafar, while addressing the protesters in Karachi’s Malir, Kalaboard, said the nation and its rulers were on completely different stands when it comes to naked Israeli terrorism in the region.

Unfortunately, he said, the nation’s rulers were conquering their own people.

He said the government has practically protected the electricity mafia called Independent Power Producers, while emphasizing that the ruling regime was walking hand in hand with the K-Electric in Karachi and IPPs in other parts of the city.

The JI leader said Karachi – home to more than 30 million people – was becoming a center of trouble. He added that Karachiites have been facing electricity, water and gas crisis and all kinds of social problems.

The megacity has been handed over to criminals and mafias, he said, adding that tanker mafia, KE and street criminals have not left Karachi as a viable city.

The leaders and district heads of JI Karachi addressed the participants of the 13 sit-ins held across Karachi. A large number of people from all walks of life took part in the sit-ins.

The participants, carrying placards and placards, chanted slogans against the ruling regime and all those responsible for irritating the lives of Karachiites.
