Malayalam actress Minu Muneer claims she was forced to watch director Balachandra Menon abuse multiple women

Malayalam actress Minu Muneer has made more shocking revelations about the exploitation she had to endure during her time in Mollywood. The actress told India Todathat actor-director Balachandra Menon forced her to watch group sex in his room in 2007. She alleged that the ‘Ammayane Sathyam’ director was intimate with three women in the room. There were also other witnesses to the act.

“There were a few other guys watching. There were three girls and him in the room doing it. I walked out of the room. He asked me to sit down and watch,” Muneer told India Today.

Muneer had accused several persons, such as actor Jayasurya and CPI(M) MLA Mukesh, of physical and verbal abuse. Her allegations came in the wake of the Hema Committee report, which highlighted issues of sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry.

Earlier, Muneer gave a detailed account of her ordeal through an emotional post on Facebook. . She said she was physically and verbally abused by seven men. The persons named in her complaint include Babu, actor-politician Mukesh, noted Malayalam actor Jayasurya, Maniyan Pilla Raju, lawyer Chandrasekaran, production controller Noble and a person identified as Vichu.

She explained that although she did her best to remain professional and cooperate with the people involved, the abuse only worsened over time. Ultimately, the situation became unbearable, forcing her to make the difficult choice to leave her career due to the relentless harassment she endured.


The Justice Hema Committee report, released on August 19, notes that the Malayalam film industry is dominated by about 10 to 15 male producers, directors and actors who wield significant power. Muneer also mentioned that he had received several calls from people trying to solve the case with money. On September 25, the Special Investigation Team arrested Malayalam actor Edavela Babu following a complaint by Minu Muneer accusing him of abuse. He was later released on bail. The first FIR against actor and CPI(M) MLA from Kollam, Mukesh M, was filed on August 28 following a complaint by Muneer.
