Milan’s prosecutor says the members of the Inter and Milan Ultras had a ‘non-war pact’ to maximize illegal revenues at San Siro, while the FIGC is asking for documents to clarify the two clubs’ positions.

Italian police arrested 19 people on Monday morning, mainly ultras from Inter and Milan, with alleged links to mafia families.

At a press conference today, Milan prosecutor Marcello Viola and National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo shared some details about the operation.

“There was a non-war pact between the ultras (Milan and Inter) to maximize profits,” Viola said, as quoted by Sport Mediaset.

“Activities were only carried out to gain economic benefit. The interest in the clubs was just a facade. Inter and Milan are just damaged subjects.”

Police have reported that financial activities linked to San Siro were “beyond any legal control”.

Viola added that this was “partly” due to “some organizational shortcomings by Inter in managing fan relations. ”

“There was an absolute lack of control over access to the stadium; deliveries of tickets to criminals who then made huge profits from resale.”

Viola said that the income earned through illegal activities inside and outside San Siro was transferred to mafia families linked to the ultras of Inter and Milan.

Milan’s prosecutor is confident that the investigation has revealed the solid links between mafia families and leading ultra members in Curva Sud and Curva Nord in San Siro. Melillo added that the research highlighted the logic that “legitimized racism and anti-Semitism in stadiums” across Italy.

According to ANSA news agency, FIGC prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné has requested documents related to the criminal investigation to “verify possible violations of sports law by the two Serie A clubs and their members.”
